Bob and Veil
Bob and Veil are the two people you control in EthrA. Bob is a farm boy who left home looking for a more interesting life. Veil is a lost child of a rare species that usually hides from humans, and he carries a natural affinity for magic. You do not pick one and bench the other. The store is explicit: both characters are controlled at the same time, with Bob on close-range weapons and Veil on spells and buffs. This page is the character file: origins, combat jobs, and how the pair is meant to travel: before you open the dual-combat breakdown.

Bob
Bob is the melee body. StoneLab names him as a farm boy searching for a more interesting life: no last name, no numeric stats, no separate portrait beyond the Steam screenshots. Kickstarter story copy overlaps that outline: he joins the Adventurers' Guild hoping to earn enough to leave home. That is motivation, not a skill tree. In a fight he handles close-range combat. He can carry two weapon sets, and in each set you equip left and right hands independently. Swords, shields, spears, greatswords, and bows are the implemented classes; dual daggers are listed as next. Tools and artifacts sit in the same close-range kit, which is why this route treats him as the body you steer through ruins and village lanes. When you open weapon sets you are still looking at class names and hand slots, not damage tables. When you open dual-character combat you are deciding whether Veil rides on this farm boy's back or walks beside him. Bob without Veil is a melee character missing his magical support: the store says that penalty in plain language if Veil is defeated.

Veil
Veil is the caster you steer beside Bob. He is a lost child of a rare species with a natural affinity with magic. The species usually hides from humans, which is why the pair's traveling arrangement is a story fact as well as a control fact. He casts spells and buffs. You customize his magic by loading different spells and swapping them to complement however Bob is fighting. Official text does not publish a named spell list or cooldown table, so no invented spell names appear here. Control modes are the other half of his sheet. Mounted on Bob's back, he stays protected and the two move as one. Placed on the ground, he takes orders, splits enemy attention, and accepts the risk of being dropped. Auto mode exists if dual control feels heavy, and the store also flags it for experienced players. His kind can gather and process EthrA energy directly. Japanese Steam keeps the product title EthrA and localizes the names: Bob becomes ボブ and Veil becomes ベール. Those are the official Japanese character names; other storefronts keep Bob and Veil in Latin letters.

- A lot of open-world RPGs let you recruit a companion who then runs on a leash. EthrA's store text is stricter: you control both at the same time. That is why Bob and Veil share one file instead of two thin bios.
- The ridge still on this route shows the two of them in the same frame, which matches the control model better than a pair of isolated portraits. StoneLab did not publish isolated portraits. The six-minute official gameplay video on this route is the motion version of the same pair walking and fighting together, not a second biography.
- Read this file first if you need to know who is who before a fight. Then use dual-character combat for mount versus ground, customize his magic for Veil's spell load, and EthrA Playtest Sign-Up to see that combat fundamentals are in the first Steam prototype.
- There are no official last names, ages, height charts, or affinity numbers. There is no separate character select screen in the published stills. Key art and in-engine shots show a small dark companion beside a pixel farm boy; the text tells you those figures are Veil and Bob.
- Treat screenshots as evidence of the pair, not as a roster of unnamed extras you can wiki independently. The Youtooz 9-inch Veil plush that went live on 24 November 2025 is adjacent merch, not a combat form. Steam news said purchases support development. It does not change Veil's spells, mount state, or auto mode.
- If you came here from the plush listing, the playable Veil is still the rare-species caster in the dual-control loop, and the way into a build is the Steam playtest, not the plush store.
- The ridge still is the pair in one frame, which is the same fact as dual control: one player, two named leads, no bench. Combat fundamentals in the first Steam playtest are the practical place to feel that pair. Farming and co-op still wait. Unlock copy says you gain new melee moves, spells, artifacts, and gear as the story progresses, still without a named spell list for Veil.
